Medical Staff
Kenneth E Layton, DVM - Owner
Dr. Kenneth E. Layton graduated with honors from Louisiana State University in 1996 where he was a graduate
inductee of Phi Zeta—the
honor society of veterinary medicine. Prior to enrolling in LSU, Dr. Layton served
as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1985 to 1989 before receiving an
Honorable Discharge. Ken's been affiliated with Pine Valley since 2002. He purchased
the practice in February 2008.
Possessing a lifelong passion for the medical field and to work with animals,
Dr. Layton strives to make your experience at our Veterinary Hospital as practical
and comfortable as possible while providing the highest quality medical care available.
This passion is the driving force behind everything that occurs at Pine Valley. It's
the reason why Pine Valley owns the latest high-tech equipment. It's the reason
why Pine Valley's not corporate-owned. It's the reason why our staff and clients
have stuck with us since 1988.
Ken loves the outdoors, whether on the water, gardening
or spending time with his family that includes wife Jeannie, sons, Jacob,
Christopher Moreland, and daughter Micaela Moreland. Whenever possible Ken and Jeannie's activities
include new family members: PiLingtheir crazy cat, a new yet-to-be-named kitten left on the
hospital doorstep, and an also yet-to-be-named Cavalier King Charles female puppy! In addtion, Dr.
Layton is graciously permitted to live in the same home with Crash the Cranky Cat, Puffy the Old Lady Cat
and Barney, his decade old fish.
Amy Eutsey, DVM
Dr. Amy grew up in rural Southwestern Pennsylvania. She graduated from Washington and Jefferson College with a BS in Biology. In
1994, she earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University.
Dr. Eutsey has been in small animal private practice since graduation and has worked
in Annapolis, MD, Brownwood, TX, Nags Head, NC and here at Pine Valley Animal Hospital
for the since 1997. She has also worked at our local Emergency Hospital. Dr. Eustey
loves being a veterinarian which is obvious in the way she treats her patients and
clients. She says her patients are the best part of her job every day!
Amy lives with her significant other, Dirk, her six-year old son, Ben and her two
elderly yellow labrador retrievers, Grady and Sadie. Time off finds them working
in the yard, gardening, swimming and riding jet skis! Ben is a student at Cape Fear
Academy and is active in YMCA soccer, CFA Lacrosse, and YWCA swimming; keeping Dr.
Eutsey on the go!
Sarah Darnell, Veterinary Assistant
Dr. Layton's valued assistant since 2002, Sarah is compassionate about the welfare
of every one of our patients. Sarah's ability to read your pet's feelings will put
you and your pet at ease the minute you walk into the exam room. Sarah is currently
studying for her degree as a veterinary technician.
Sarah shares her home with her adopted pets, Pink and Jaden.
Siobhan Newton, Senior Veterinary Assistant
In 2002 we were fortunate to cross paths with Wilmington native Siobhan Newton. Siobhan excels in her "do everything" role that ranges from hospital support to hands-on loving care for the pets. And, she does it all in a bright and cheerful manner.
Seriously dedicated to operating the hospital as a family oriented full-care facility, Siobhan
frequently works through her lunch hours. When asked for content for this bio, she submitted this:
It is truly rewarding to get to know our friends as they progress from puppies,
kittens or adoptees through their relationships with their owners. It’s so encouraging
and uplifting to know that even when times are bad, people still go out of
their way to take care of their best friends; their pets.
My personal favorite pet? ...Guinea pigs.
Brittany Dickens
Brittany is the newest member of our team. She loves animals and as our kennel tech
spends a lot of time playing with all of our guests. In fact she gets so attached
that you may see her shed a tear when it’s time for them to leave. At home she has
two dogs, Sam & Gris, that she enjoys walking and showering with affection.
Destiny Bergmann
Destiny is a Wilmington native and has been working with animals for 9 years. Destiny
is a valued veterinary assistant who goes above and beyond as an employee here.
It is not uncommon to see her hand feeding or even holding water in her hands for
a sick or anxious pet. When Destiny has free time she likes to exercise (we hear
she is pretty adept at Wii these days!) and she loves to read and fish. Destiny
shares her home with four dogs, and a turtle. We are very happy to have Destiny
a part of the Pine Valley Family!

Support Staff
Jeannie Moreland Layton - Office Manager
A longtime Wilmington resident, Jeannie first moved to Pine Valley in 1974 with
her family. She graduated from UNCW
in 1979 and went on to become an integral part of the family business until choosing
to stay at home to raise children. She later re-entered the workforce full-time
as a Financial Assistant for A G Edwards and Sons. When Dr. Layton bought the practice
in 2008, naturally Jeannie became the Office Manager. Jeannie brings compassion
and spark to the office; expect a warm welcome and big smile.
Jeannie's passions are family (both the two- and four-legged variety), the outdoors,
and practicing yoga. When she's not spending time with her big family that includes
husband Ken, sons, Jacob Layton, Christopher, and daughter Micaela,
and Maggie and Petey, you might be able
to catch her teaching classes at the
Wilmington Yoga Center.
Barbara Tennyson, Senior Receptionist
Barbara graduated from UNCW with
a BA in History and a BS in Biology. She has been in the Veterinary Field since
1982 and with Pine Valley since its inception in 1988 and has lived in Wilmington since 1962.
With the reputation as Pine Valley's "go to" person, there doesn't seem to be any
circumstance Barbara hasn't seen or had experience with in the animal field. Upon
meeting Barbara at the front desk you immediately sense her intelligence and her
compassion for you and your pet.
C.C. Pennington, Receptionist
One of our most friendly and cheerful receptionists, C.C. is always in a happy mood!
C.C. was raised in Wilmington, although she left for many years to travel the world
with her husband, who was in the military. Always the one to sneak treats to your
pet whenever she can, she's worked at Pine Valley since 1999. Before we were fortunate
enough to have her, C.C. worked as an Animal Control Officer for the Commonwealth
of Virginia.
When not working, you'll find C.C. at the beach or spending time with her children
and grandchildren. C.C. has three Shelties, Rowdy, Belle and Trixie and seven cats!
Rachel Poole, Receptionist
Rachel is the soft spoken, unflappable, kind face behind the desk as you walk in.
Raised in Raleigh, Rachel moved to Wilmington in 2001. She earned a BA in Economics
and History from UNCW in 2007.
She returned to UNCW in 2009 to pursue a BS and masters in Applied Mathematics continuing
her career as a permanent student! When not attending to work or pursuing her academic
interests, Rachel enjoys cooking, reading and pampering her incredibly spoiled dog,
Puck. She lives with her boyfriend Jeremy and Puck downtown where they take advantage
of downtown living!
Sushi Dupree, Lord of the Manner
Sushi is our in-house cat. He was a feral cat given to us by a special client.
Sushi very kindly lets us all stay here with him.
Jaden
Jaden was left outside the clinic on a stormy August night. Sarah fell in love with
her on sight and has had her for 3 years now. After the birth of Sarah’s son, Jade
was feeling a little left out so she started hanging at the office. She also likes
to do sleepovers at Dr. Ken and Jeannie’s house a few times a week.
Roberta Flack
Roberta came to live with us in December of 2009, when her parents couldn’t keep
her inside. Roberta now lounges around the office all day long, leaving her bed
only to have some lunch or a snuggle!
